![]() ![]() Our RealHula INTENSIVE is an in-depth learning experience in which the student(s) live in an attractive specially provided facility at the hälau in beautiful Kailua on the windward side of the island of O'ahu. The apartment is a small two bedroom unit equipped with separate entrance, lanai and kitchen facilities for food preparation. Meals are not provided. A specified number of personal sessions are a part of each package. In addition, all regularly scheduled ongoing classes are open to our Hula Intensive guests as well. This living arrangement allows for close contact with Kumu Kea thereby providing an opportunity for non-structured sharing of knowledge and traditions.
*Airport pick-up and return is provided when requested at no additional charge*
![]() Want to continue your RealHula intensive home-stay-learning experience on the "Big-island"? Our sister hälau located in downtown Hilo has agreed to partner with us here on O'ahu. Under the direction of Mo'ikeha Yates you will experience the same quality of opportunities for hula learning and cultural study that we offer here in Kailua. The price schedule is the same. You will experience the living spirit of aloha and in-depth learning from your teacher, Mo'ikeha.

Questions often asked: 1) Can I bring my husband (daughter, son, etc.) even though they won't be taking the dancing lessons? Yes, we charge $50 per night per person for non-hula guests. If you come with family members, you will need a rental car and will be expected to take care of your own meals. 2) How many can you accommodate at one time? Six very friendly people can be housed in the two bedroom unit consisting of one room with twin beds, one room with a double hide-a-bed and a second double hide-a-bed in the living room. In addition to the apartment, there is one other bedroom as pictured on the web site with twin beds. So 8 persons can share the living arrangements if four of them don't mind sharing a double bed. If you book as a group, the price is full price for the first person and half price per person for each of the others in your group. When booking a group please plan to prepare your own meals in the fully equipped apartment kitchen. You may CONTACT KUMU from any email button on any Page

Take Your Class Home With You We have put the material of our Hula Workshops on Video. We call them RealHula Teaching Videos.
Except for Basic Hula, we enclose a booklet containing extensive background information, detailed translations, historical and place references, choreography, costuming and footwork notes. Our instruction is very specific and very detailed. If some of the dance steps seem to differ from what you have learned before, you should know that we teach a specific tradition of hula. Our teachers danced and taught the 'ai ha'a style of hula, characterized by a very deep knee bend. |
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ON-LOCATION HULA WORKSHOPS RealHula presents Hula Workshops as part of our teaching. A Hula Workshop is typically 2 to 3 hours in length and teaches one number. Background information on the number is supplied, as well as an English translation of any Hawaiian words. Most often two Workshops are held each day. Students may sign up for either or both. These Hula Workshops are often the basis of our teaching videos
If a video is available, it will be available at the Workshop Pricing and Registration are handled by the sponsoring Studio and not through this website. |
