Aloha Dear Experienced Dancer!
For some time I have been answering individual requests for hula numbers that have not yet been prepared for our regular hula teaching videos. What these videos consist of is a danced version of the song - in front of the mirror - so you can follow that dancer easily. It is accompanied by the written choreography, words, translation and sometimes where applicable, background information about the number.
While this in no way replaces the RealHula teaching videos that are our main focus, these videos can put a great deal of material quickly into the hands of experienced hula dancers who may have little need for the extensive teaching required on our regular RealHula teaching videos.
Our main focus is still the complete teaching experience - the same teaching that my students get in a regular hula class. This product, while a compromise in that completeness, is accompanied by the warning that if you are not grounded in the basic footwork and movements in the hula, you will not find these videos nearly complete enough to fill the gap in your experience and knowledge. . .Kumu Kea

Kimo Hula is a classic from the pen of Helen Desha Beamer.
Written as a thank-you gift for the hospitality the composer enjoyed at the Hawai'i home of James Kimo Henderson and his wife Leionaona. This beautiful song speaks of the lovely flower gardens, the song birds in the forest thd the estate and the hospitality lavished on their guests.
The beautiful choreography comes from my teacher, Bella Richards.
The music is by Sandii from our "Sandii's Hawai'i" CD
- U'ILANI - FT-120DVD
Composed by Lena Macodo, was written as a mele inoa for the infant daughter of one of Lena's close friends. It enjoyed instant popularity becoming a falsetto favorite for performers to this day.

Unfortunately this recording is not available except in Japan, but there are many fine recordings of this song from which to choose elsewhere. Enjoy this beautiful hula.

Beloved Hula Master Edith Kanaka'ole composed this musical tribute to the many delicious varieties of seaweed gathered and eaten by Hawaiians. It is one of the most frequently danced numbers by hälau hula here in Hawai'i, and one that is frequently requested by RealHula customers. We present it here as the danced only version that was made available to participants in hula workshops given in Japan.
Pumehana is your dancer. Read the text carefully so you understand the reasons behind the hand gestures. Choreography, translation and some background information are included in the notes that accompany this hula favorite.
